Crataegus alemanniensis

Native to western Europe at low altitudes. It is a shrub or small tree to 8 m tall with a dense crown. The younger stems bear sharp thorns approximately 1.25 cm long; the leaves are dark green 2 to 4 cm long, deply lobed. The flowers are produced in late spring in corymbs of 5-25 together; each flower is about 1 cm diameter and has 5 white petals. The haw is a small dark red berry-like fruit about 1 cm long, containing a single seed.
